Business breakfast “Antitrust regulation of financial markets – what’s new?” was held on June 1, 2016 in the Moscow office of Capital Legal Services

Representatives of major Russian and international banks and insurance companies met at a round table. Acting Head of the Directorate for Control over Financial Markets of the Russian Federal Antitrust Service Liliya Belyaeva was a guest speaker. Head of the Antitrust Practice and Of Counsel of Capital Legal Services Irina Akimova acted as moderator of the discussion.
The participants of the meeting discussed the most critical issues financial organizations face as regards antitrust regulation of their activity. Furthermore, the guests showed a keen interest in the course of discussing the new amendments to the Law on Protection of Competition, especially concerning application of Article 10 of the law and definition of the notion of “indefinite circle of persons,” as well as issues of unfair competition on the banking services market.
In addition, the participants discussed problem issues related to interaction of banks and insurers in the course of insuring debtors’ risks and qualification of such agreements as anti-competitive.
As per tradition, the business breakfast was held in form of a discussion. “The event aroused a keen interest of the leading representatives of banking and insurance communities. In the course of the discussion, the regulator’s representative was asked many questions regarding practical issues of applying the antitrust legislation on the financial markets. The participants of the business breakfast expressed the hope that such events will continue to be held in the future,” sad Irina Akimova after the event.
