Business breakfasts at Capital Legal Services: protection of intellectual property from A to Z
On October 17 and 19, 2017, Capital Legal Services held a series of business breakfasts on protection of intellectual property (copyright and trademark rights) in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Practically every company owns intellectual property, which, in turn, can both work to the company’s benefit and bear risks for its business.
Due to the rapidly changing intellectual property legislation and practice of the Court for Intellectual Property Rights, sometimes business does not have enough of an understanding as to why and how to protect its rights in this area properly. Moreover, many questions could be answered only by relying on the practice being formed.
Elena Berger and Vladislav Shcherbatykh, associates of the IP practice, spoke on developing the most effective model for intellectual property management and protection.
In their presentation, Elena and Vladislav described all stages of work with intellectual property: from the stage when the rights accrue to the stage of cases being examined in courts and the Federal Antitrust Service. With regard to preventive measures, the associates described ways to document rights, including observance of formalities allowing to protect intellectual property rights effectively, and touched on algorithms of monitoring for violations. In the second part of their presentation, the colleagues described various mechanisms of protection against violations of intellectual property rights. Issues of administrative liability, interaction with state bodies, compensation recovery, etc. were covered.
The number of real cases analyzed by the experts of Capital Legal Services during the discussion confirms the importance of the matter and provides an excellent base for new subjects for future business breakfasts dedicated to IP issues.
