Mikhail Shalygin elected to manage Committee for sustainable development at the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce
On October 5, the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce held a meeting and elections of the management to the Committee for sustainable development, which engages in issues of ecology and environmental protection, Russia’s reform in handling trash, handling of industrial waste and drain water treatment.
Mikhail Shalygin, head of the sustainable development practice and support for projects in the oil and gas industry at CLS, was elected deputy chair of the Committee.
“The Russian-German Chamber of Commerce today is particularly important for retaining and developing economic ties between countries. Representing the interests of over 750 member companies, the Chamber is both a place for dialogue and a real tool for supporting business at a time of global market change. The Chamber’s activity helps companies to exchange experience and best practices and to develop joint approaches to resolving practical issues: from entering new markets to implementing contemporary standards for corporate governance and sustainable development.
“Work of the Chamber’s Committee for sustainable development is one of the key tools allowing business to transform sustainable development into a practical competitive advantage. The Committee unities companies, experts and representatives from the business community around sustainable development issues, the climate agenda, bio-economy, supply chain transparency, compliance with environmental laws and responsible use of resources. Such a format of participating in the work allows companies to not just make general declarations, but to take sustainable development principles and turn them into specific managerial decisions and investment projects, enjoying the Committee members’ broadest support at all stages of project implementation.”
